Florida’s wide receiver room might be one of the deepest in the country heading into the 2026 campaign. On paper, the Gators have Vernell Brown III, Dallas Wilson, and Eric Singleton Jr. as their starting trio of receivers. Behind them, however, might be a unit deep enough that could be a starting unit all by itself at several other Power Four conferences, and no one would bat an eye.
To highlight this point, Pete Nakos of On3 just highlighted one of the depth pieces that Florida fans already knew could be a massive problem for opponents in 2026.
Micah Mays keeps validating his spring breakout
Naoks dropped a list of 20 “under-the-radar” transfers making waves this fall camp. He listed Micah Mays and used him as the featured photo. He did not say anything groundbreaking beyond, “But the receiver On3 continues to hear the most buzz about this summer and into preseason has been Wake Forest transfer Micah Mays.” Still, it is interesting to see Mays get the national buzz that Gator fans have already heard.
When Mays first transferred to Florida from Wake Forest, most fans thought very little of the move. He was a four-star coming out of high school in the class of 2023, but had minimal impact during his three years with the Demon Decans. In 2024, he had 16 catches for 218 yards, and in 2025, he had 302 yards on 18 catches.
But he exploded onto the scene during Florida’s spring game, taking advantage of Dallas Wilson being hurt, with 122 yards and two touchdowns. Sumrall noted in the spring:
“Yeah, he's flashed. In particular, making plays down the field or getting the ball in hand-type plays when he's on the move as a route runner. He's been explosive. He tracks it well. He catches it clean.”
Florida’s WR depth could become a real weapon
Realistically speaking, Mays won’t be a starter in 2026 unless one of Florida’s big three (Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown III, and Eric Singleton Jr.) gets hurt. But he is part of an intriguing second unit that right now seems to be made up of T.J. Abrams, Bailey Stockton, and Mays. That’s before we even get to Florida’s talented first-year students, including Davian Groce and Justin Williams.
Translation:
Florida has a deep wide receiver room in 2026, and Sumrall and Buster Faulkner are going to have plenty of intriguing options to work with this year.
Gator fans knew this; the rest of the country is starting to catch up.
