Lane Kiffin drama takes unexpected turn that isn't fair to Florida or anyone

As the Gators bide their time to see if they can land Lane Kiffin as their next head coach, he is making Florida and every other school wait even longer.

The latest twist in the Lane Kiffin saga has dropped, and it simply means that everyone (and yes, we mean everyone) has to wait even longer.

On Friday, Nov. 21, Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter released a statement sharing that everybody would have to wait for another two weeks for an unspecified announcement regarding Kiffin's future with the Rebels.

"An announcement on Coach Kiffin's future is expected the Saturday following the game," Carter wrote.

The game he is referring to? The Egg Bowl between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Mississippi State Bulldogs, which isn't taking place until Friday, Nov. 28, a full week after the AD released his statement.

Gators have to wait even longer to see if they get Kiffin or not

Kiffin has yet to give any indication whether he's staying with the Rebels, joining the Florida Gators, or jumping aboard a ship at another program entirely.

Carter's announcement that everyone simply has to wait for yet another announcement is entirely unfair to the entire world of college football, specifically programs like Florida, the LSU Tigers, and the Rebels themselves.

Sure, Carter shared the message with the intent that everyone turn away from the Kiffin drama and turn toward the Egg Bowl for the next week. However, an announcement like this doesn't distract anyone from the actual narrative at hand, even if that's what Carter was hoping that it would do.

And, to begin with, Florida is focused on its game against the No. 20 Tennessee Volunteers, which kicks off tomorrow, and not a week from today. The Gators are under the guise of interim head coach Billy Gonzales, who stepped into the role after Billy Napier was fired.

So, yes, while Florida would love to hear a simple yes or no from Kiffin, the Gators' true focus this week is the game on the schedule, and then the regular season-ending game against Florida State just one week after that.
