Kennedee Jackson’s move to Georgia is more irritating than damaging for Florida

To this point, everything in recruiting has gone perfectly for Jon Sumrall. Almost too perfect, as the Gators have yet to face any real bumps in the road for their class of 2027. But alas, nothing stays perfect forever, as a player who committed to Florida just 11 days ago has flipped his commitment to Georgia.

It’s also not a reason for Gator fans to panic moving forward.

Kennedee Jackson flips commitment from Florida to Georgia

Kennedee Jackson is a four-star offensive tackle who committed to Florida back on June 2. If you are keeping score at home, that’s 11 days ago. It felt clear, though, after he took his official visit to Georgia, based upon the messaging he himself was putting on social media, that his commitment to Florida wasn’t going to stick, and on Saturday, he formally flipped to the Bulldogs.

We liked Jackson’s game, and back on June 1, we said:

“On film, there is no mistaking Jackson’s size, and there is no mistaking his power. Jackson can flatten guys to the ground without much effort, and his natural frame is so imposing that he really doesn’t need to move much to be in the way of someone.

But there was writing on the wall after Jackson took a visit to Athens last weekend and it seemed clear that Georgia was making a major push to flip Jackson. He put out on social media earlier this week that he wasn't taking any interviews and it felt like a matter of time before this flip graphic was going to hit social media.

So while this is a solid player who has flipped away from Florida to its arch rival, there is also zero reason for Florida fans to panic or to pay much attention to any troll job that Bulldog fans are bound to throw Florida’s way.

The Gators still have three offensive linemen committed for the class of 2027, all of whom are composite top 125 players. Maxwell Hiller headlines the group, but don’t sleep on Elijah Hutcheson and Peyton Miller, who are no slouches either.

And even if the Gators don’t swing the momentum back for Antonio Berry, who appears to be leaning towards Ole Miss at the moment, three top 125 offensive linemen are more than enough to solidify and build with moving forward.

And let’s be honest, if a guy flips after just 11 days, then more than likely his entire ploy was to get Georgia to up its NIL price, so even in “losing” the Gators still picked up a win. Sumrall has built a recruiting class that far exceeds anything previous eras could even dream of and this kind of attrition is going to happen when loading up on enough high-end talent.

As it stands, Florida is back to 22 commits and even with Jackson opting to take his talents to Athens, the Gators are still ranked in the top five of the 247 Composite and is No. 6 in the Rivals rankings.
