Prior to the Auburn game, a lot was made about how the Gators would handle their first road environment of the season. In particular, Aaron Philo was making his first road start of his career and Auburn fans were trying to hype up how crazy Jordan-Hare Stadium was going to be.
Spoiler alert: Florida scored 44 points en route to a win.
Don’t just take our word for it, Jon Sumrall wasn’t too impressed by what the environment was like either.
Jon Surmall ranks The Swamp ahead of Jordan-Hare Stadium
Sumrall appeared on the Brandon Walker College Football show and he was asked about what he hopes The Swamp is going to be like this Saturday for Florida’s showdown against Ole Miss. Sumrall thinks the place could truly be an insane asylum:
"Our FAU game, the crowd, was livelier than what we played in on Saturday night. So, I can only imagine what that’s gonna feel like when you bring a top-five team into this place."

Now, if one thinks that Sumrall is simply hating on Auburn as a continuation of him not taking the job there, you might not be wrong. Sumrall made several jabs towards Auburn before and after Florida’s win, all with the backdrop that in November there were numerous reports that Auburn wanted Sumrall before he pivoted to Florida.
If we are being honest, his statement wasn’t that out of pocket. The atmosphere against FAU did feel like a party, and there was a buzz that had been missing for a long time. And just going off what came through on TV, we would argue that The Swamp was indeed livelier against FAU than Jordan-Hare was on Saturday.
Of course, all this stadium talk is a fun backdrop for fans, but seldom is it the sole deciding factor in a game. Just look at the previous era of Florida football as proof of that. The Swamp was sold out every week, and opponents were still getting out alive.
But now that Florida has an exciting team to match the energy and the buzz of Gainesville, there is the potential for something special on Saturday. If Sumrall and crew can pull off the win over Ole Miss, it might just go down as one of the loudest pops in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium history.
