The Florida Gators are pushing hard for a top-five class and could achieve it this weekend if 4-star running back Andrew Beard makes a verbal commitment as now expected.
Jon Sumrall's commitment to the trail is paying off big time and the Gators recruiting class is among the best in the SEC, which means it's among the best in the country. Both Rivals/On3 and 247Sports have Florida as the No. 6-ranked class in the country.

Jon Sumrall is building excitement for Florida football with a stellar recruiting class
Sumrall said from the get-go that he was going to be all-in on recruiting. He was going to go after elite players, blue-chip players, under-the-radar prospects that he believed could be developed and have the raw tools to compete in the SEC over time. Recruiting in today's college football is different and there has to be a balance of players a program is willing to go big for with ones that will be far cheaper on the NIL scale but are evaluated as potential solid pieces. Just filling a roster with a dozen 5-star and high 4-star kids will cost $20 million these days.
So, Sumrall is banking on the right evaluations for both the blue-chip prospects and the under-the-radar ones, because mistakes come at a much greater cost. This is where his time recruiting at Troy and Tulane comes in handy. He knows how to find players that others might miss, but unlike the last guy that coached in Gainesville, he also knows what real-deal SEC players look like.
Increased momentum has led to increased investment in Gators football
Everyone is feeling Sumrall right now. The college football media loves the guy. Top recruits love the guy. He's engaging. He's funny. He's honest almost to a fault and it's refreshing. He doesn't feel gross and dirty like Lane Kiffin or completely over his head like Mike Norvell.
The more the boosters hear from him, the more they are willing to invest in his success. He's not just feeding them a bunch of canned lines. He's telling them that Florida is a school that should appeal to every top player and, collectively, Gator fans and boosters can make it happen. It's a message that is being received loud and clear.
