Jon Sumrall will have to wait at least another week.
The flirtation between the Florida Gators and five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster has gotten intense over the past several weeks as the Texas Tech commit is seriously considering which programs will have the best chance to flip him. But if Sumrall is going to get Brewster back on campus for an official visit, it will be another weekend because the top-rated player in the 2027 class, according to On3/Rivals, is taking a trip to Texas.

Brewster has been announcing his official visit plans in the final hours before the weekend starts, adding a lot of drama to where he might end up next. Last week he took an official visit to LSU, and he has been to Indiana and SMU as well. There's been some speculation, mainly from me, that Florida might get him on campus in the final visit weekend before the summer dead period on June 19, when five-star commit Maxwell Hiller, the top-ranked interior offensive lineman in the country, is scheduled to be on campus. But it's truly all speculation because no one outside of Brewster knows what he's doing.

I don't think it's time to panic or otherwise right now. The Gators are still in the hunt for Brewster, but he's in control of his recruitment and that mens that Sumrall, the staff and fans have to be patient and hope that it all works out. There's nothing that came out of Brewster's previous visits to Gainesville to think that he won't come back for an official visit at some point, but if it doesn't happen in the final two weekends before the dead period, the percentage of a Brewster flip to Florida will fall.Â
There are still reasons to be very optimistic about the Gators' chances with Brewster and much of that comes from the player himself and the way he's spoken about the program and Sumrall. The best thing for Florida to do is continue to be aggressive in their recruitment of him and also continue to build the best class possible. With the commitment of four-star defensive tackle Zahmar Tookes on Wednesday, the Gators have a class that's rated in the top five nationally.Â

Brewster is off to Austin this week and Steve Sarkisian will show him what the Longhorns are all about. There's a chance that next week Brewster will visit the program that kept Texas out of the playoffs last season. We can only hope.Â
