Florida head coach Jon Sumrall's first season in Gainesville has had highs and lows. The highs include beating Auburn on the road, upsetting Ole Miss and beating Texas in Austin.
The lows have been losing Missouri on the road, falling to a three-loss South Carolina team and getting drubbed by Georgia last week. The Gators have an opportunity to finish out strong during the month of November, with games remaining against Oklahoma, at Kentucky, Vanderbilt and against Florida State on the road.
To find out how the Gators might finish out the season, let's take a look at how Jon Sumrall-coached teams have historically done in November.
Sumrall teams are 14-1 during the month of November
Of course, Sumrall's 48-15 overall record as a head coach certainly helps here. But his former Troy and Tulane teams have done well during the month of November. Here's a quick look at Sumrall's track record during the month:
- 2022: Troy—4-0
- 2023: Troy—4-0
- 2024: Tulane—2-1
- 2025: Tulane—4-0
During Sumrall's first season at Troy in 2022, the Trojans went 12-2 capped off with a Sun Belt Championship. Troy defeated Louisiana, Army, Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas State during the month of November that year.
Troy finished 11-3 his second season there, as his team defeated South Alabama, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana and Southern miss in November.
His first season at Tulane in 2024 was a bit of an anomaly, as the Green Wave played just three games during the month thanks to a bye the week of Nov. 23. Tulane got wins over Temple and Navy, but fell 34-24 to Memphis.
Last season at Tulane, the Green Wave went a perfect 4-0. His team earned victories over Memphis, Florida Atlantic, Temple and Charlotte to clinch a trip to the AAC title game. He led Tulane to a first-ever CFP berth in school history.

How Sumrall can win big with Florida in November
If Sumrall gets a fourth 4-0 record with the Gators, it would be quite the accomplishment. Florida first has to play Oklahoma at home this week. Although the Gators are six-point favorites, the Sooners also upset Texas earlier this season, and Oklahoma plays well at times.
The biggest challenge standing in Sumrall's way of going undefeated this month is the road trip to No. 7 Kentucky next week. The 7-1 Wildcats look like a legitimate CFP and SEC contender this year under fellow first-year head coach Will Stein. Florida also hasn't won in Lexington since 2019.
From there, Florida then plays Vanderbilt at home. The Commodores are 0-5 in the SEC so far, so the Gators should hopefully get an easy win there. Florida finishes the season on the road against Florida State. You would think that the Gators would be heavy favorites over a below-.500 FSU team, but Rivalry Week is always wonky.
Sumrall going 4-0 in November with Florida might be the most impressive of his previous three times. But he certainly has experience in his teams playing good football the last month of the season.
