Jon Sumrall had an April to remember on the recruiting trail and with Wednesday's commitment of three-star defensive back Kailib Dillard, the momentum has officially carried into May.

Dillard became the 11th player to join the Florida Gators 2027 recruiting class and the eighth player to do it since April 8th. It's been a tremendous run for Sumrall and the class has vaulted into the top-10 range and added to the excitement that has been building around the program since the 43-year-old coach took over.

The commitment of DB Kailib Dillard continues Jon Sumrall's hot recruiting run

Dillard is not your normal recruiting win. He is well outside what most would consider the Gators' "recruiting footprint" and plays high school for Oklahoma powerhouse program Jenks. However, the projected safety was primarily looking at out-of-state programs for his recruitment and that's when Sumrall was able to pounce.

He has been on the Gainesville campus several times since Sumrall arrived and Florida quickly got into his top group with Georgia and Oregon. Dillard is scheduled to take an official visit on June 12, but given his affinity for the program and coaching staff, it's possible that he'll be around for other big visit weekends trying to convince other top targets to join him in the class.  The Bulldogs are on the schedule for a June 5 official and there's no word if Dillard will go through with that.

Sumrall is focused on rebuilding the secondary through high school recruiting and Dillard joins four-star cornerbacks Amare Nugent and Aamaury Fountain in the class. Recruiting in the secondary isn't close to finish and Sumrall is trying to see if he can still convince in-state target and Notre Dame commit Zayden Gamble to take his scheduled mid-June official visit to Florida.

Right now, Sumrall has the Gators humming in recruiting. The party really got started when five-star interior offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller and four-star quarterback Davin Davidson committed within a span of three days. Those moves opened the floodgates and sent a message to the country that Sumrall was going to be a force on the trail.
