The Florida Gators are closing in a commitment from four-star wide receiver Elias Pearl, who is going to make his announcement next week, likely on Tuesday. Pearl's final schools — Florida, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, FSU and Georgia — have dwindled to his two favorites, Florida and Ole Miss.

Pearl has been a top target for Jon Sumrall for several months and the prospect from Port Charlotte, Florida is arguably the best slot receiver in the country.

Florida will battle Ole Miss for 4-star WR Elias Pearl

Jon Sumrall has had the Gators on a recruiting heater since early April, and it's been a solid mixture of elite talent and players that are a little under-the-radar, but possess the kind of upside that the Gators staff feels good about. Pearl is not only an elite prospect, but he's also an in-state recruit in an area between Sarasota and Fort Myers that's always been good for Florida football.

One of the connections that could help the Gators is quarterback commit Davin Davidson, who plays a little north of Pearl at Sarasota Cardinal Mooney. Pearl told 247Sports that the two are in contact regularly with the quarterback trying to get one of the state's best playmakers in the fold.

"It just feels great because [he knows] that I'm a great player, and together we can definitely do great things," Pearl said told Tyler Harden.

The Gators are putting together a solid group of skill players on offense with four-star athlete Tramond Collins, who could end up playing wide receiver in college, and four-star running back Andrew Beard, who committed to Florida last Friday. Other backs and receivers in the class include speedy three-star wide receiver Anthony Jennings from Fort Lauderdale and tight ends Tommy Douglas and Jackson Ballinger.

Jon Sumrall is building anticipation for the 2026 season with recruiting wins

Nothing gets a fanbase more excited in the offseason than big wins in recruiting. As blue-chip players repeatedly make commitment announcements for Florida, it builds a lot of excitement because the talent needed to win on the field clearly believe that Sumrall is the right guy for the job.

"I think the recruits in the '27 class feel our staff's authenticity, our energy. That's not myself. That's the entire staff," Sumrall said on the Gators Breakdown webcast That's everybody. I have also said this a lot of times, when the University of Florida calls, we can get a lot of people to pick up the phone. And so I think we can get anybody on our campus."

It's the sort of energy that's contagious, and it's spread to the players on the current roster, the recruiting targets and the willingness for boosters to increase their investment in the program. When Sumrall took the job in December, he knew he was going to have to prove himself on the trail before he had a chance to prove himself on the field. For the first few months, Sumrall has shown Gator fans that he's  up for this job and a commitment from Paarl next week will be further confirmation of that.
