The ongoing pursuit of Jalen Brewster has certainly had plenty of twists and turns along the way for Florida fans. The five-star defensive lineman from Texas had been committed to Texas Tech since October, but Jon Sumrall and crew have been trying to pull out every trick in the book to pull off a seismic flip for the class of 2027.
With official visits over, Brewster is still committed to Texas Tech. But as his latest social media post highlights, Brewster hasn’t publicly written off the Gators just yet.
Jalen Brewster shares OV video from Florida
On his Instagram page, Brewster shared a quick hype video showcasing him taking an array of photos during this visit to Florida. Many of those poses are ones that Florida fans saw floating around during his weekend in Gainesville.

The Instagram post is essentially a trailer for a 20-minute YouTube video on Brewster’s channel that showcases his in-depth visit to Gainesville. There are some standard Jon Sumrall speeches at dinner, and some silly music trivia games, but the video also makes sure to dive into an extended financial literacy presentation the Gators put on.
Brewster’s visit also included a visit to the weight room and a speech by Steve Spurrier.
At the end of the video, Brewster states:
“One thing I was most excited for on this visit was getting back to meet Coach Chapman, Coach Jon Sumrall, and seeing how much they love football and the way they run that program and the way Coach Chapman runs his defensive line group.
What stood out the most to me about this visit was life at the football program and the GatorMade program. To compete in the SEC, playing against the best, going against the best every day, knowing they're going to be first-round draft picks in the future. That's where I want to be, so I want to play against them right now.
If I could describe this weekend in one word, it would be electric. Go Gators!”
Can Florida pry away Jalen Brewster from Texas Tech
Brewster is saying all the right things to give Florida fans hope of pulling off, and his quote about wanting to face the best is interesting because that simply isn’t going to happen if he goes to Texas Tech and plays in the Big 12.
But we also know how this song-and-dance goes, and trying to decode every little word from a prospect can drive one crazy sometimes. The two things working against Florida at the moment are proximity and pocketbooks. Florida has NIL money to burn, but we all know Texas Tech can match and surpass anything Florida offers. Even if we took the money out of it, getting Brewster out of Texas, period, is a tall task in itself.
It comes down to whether Sumrall can convince Brewster that the energy in the building in Gainesville is that much better than the energy in the building in Lubbock, and is he can genuinely sell him on the idea that playing in the SEC versus the Big 12 is better for his own long-term goals.
For now, it’s still a wait-and-see game, but as we say all the time with these types of recruits, as long as Brewster keeps picking up the phone, then Sumrall and company need to keep calling.
