The Florida Gators will have to get back on the winning track without Vernell Brown.
Brown, the Gators' top wide receiver, will miss his second consecutive game with a knee strain. He suffered the injury in the first half against Ole Miss and missed last week's loss to Missouri. Brown was listed as questionable, but had been practicing this week and Jon Sumrall expressed optimism that he would return before the final announcement was made.

Vernell Brown's absence puts more pressure on Florida's run game
With Brown unavailable, Florida is robbed of its top playmaker on the perimeter and in the pass game. That will shift the pressure back on the Gators offense to get it done with Jadan Baugh and the run game. Baugh looked amazing in the first four games of the season and was gaining traction in the Heisman race.
But he was completely bottled up by Missouri, gaining just 13 yards on 12 carries. The Tigers kept a ton of bodies around the line of scrimmage and forced Aaron Philo to throw more than Buster Faulkner wanted him to. South Carolina will try to implore a similar look, daring Philo to make them pay and challenging Florida's offensive line to be better.
Brown does a lot to make the Gators offense go. His 17 catches for 271 yards are second on the team, but once you add in the impact he makes on special teams and his willingness to block for his teammates, it's easier to understand why Florida looked so sluggish against Missouri without him.
The good news is that Eric Singleton Jr. should be fully healthy and when he's at 100% it gives Florida a threat around the perimeter that can take the short passes and turn them into explosive plays. The work that Singleton can do underneath should give Philo the opportunity to hit big plays to Dallas Wilson over the top.
Even though Brown won't play in Week 6, he has been trending well enough that he should be clear to go next weekend when the Gators travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns. If the Gators are expected to have a chance against the top-ranked Longhorns, they will need to have all hands on deck.
