Gators Win, Fans Shrug: Why This Changes Nothing for Billy Napier

Florida won 23-21 but it didn't move the needle on Napier's status

Given that Florida has lost more than it has won in the Billy Napier Era, Saturday should have been a moment of celebration for Gator fans. Florida pulled away to beat a game Mississippi State team 23-21 off a last-second INT to move to 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in SEC play.

But if one thinks that beating the Bulldogs hid the flaws of Napier, one would be mistaken, and the powers that be shouldn't be fooled into extending Napier beyond the bye week.

Florida beats Mississippi State on Homecoming

Only Billy Napier could find a way to get booed while winning, but here we are.

Even in the win, even with a last-second INT that should have had all the same feelings of excitement we all felt during Napier's debut against Utah, all of Napier's greatest hits were on display.

Need a delay of game on a field goal attempt? Billy Napier has got you.

Need a hitch route that a high school JV defensive back could jump for an INT? Billy Napier has got you.

Need to have the incorrect number of players on the field? Billy Napier has got you.

Saturday's win proved nothing, and it also proved everything about the Billy Napier Era:

A man who is reliant on elite talent to mask the organizational flaws of his operation.

Jadan Baugh went for 150 yards, not because Napier is a savant, but because he is a future sleeper pick in your 2026 NFL fantasy draft.

Vernell Brown III went for nearly 100 yards because he is just that explosive.

DJ Lagway went for nearly 300 yards despite route concepts Stevie Wonder could have seen.

Mind you, all of those stats happened, and Florida managed just 23 points on the night.

If Scott Stricklin has any spine to him, the Billy Napier Era ends on Sunday. There is no need to keep this charade going when countless teams around the country are accomplishing more with far less talent.

If you think we here at Hail Florida Hail are being too negative, we would ask back, do you remember the feeling you had when Florida Basketball won the national title?

Because Todd Golden had real problems with his program, and he made conscious choices to fix them.

Billy Napier hopes everyone in Gainesville thinks he is a good person.

One has a national title.

One needs a Pete Thamel tweet on Sunday.
