Billy Napier seems to be unable to do anything right. In a game the Florida Gators were winning, The Swamp broke out in a "Fire Billy" chant in the 1st half of its game against Mississippi State.

But when one thinks about what Napier claims compared to what he puts out on the field, it seems that Gators fans have had enough, no matter the result.

Fire Billy

Florida lined up for a short field goal to make the score 13-7. But in true Billy Napier fashion, the Gators took a delay of game penalty to push the kick back five yards.

This was all The Swamp needed to erupt into a "Fire Billy" chant that was audible enough to be picked up on TV.

Following the penalty, Trey Smack made a 38-yard field goal, except that Damieon George Jr. was flagged for hands to the face and Florida had to back up another 15 yards.

Smack made the ensuing kick, but the point of the "Fire Billy" chant still stood.

Napier has preached his entire time in Gainesville a desire to be process-oriented and seems to believe that if you play mistake-free football, you win.

There is a hint of truth to that, but the problem is that Napier's squads are seldom mistake-free. Getting a delay of game on a field goal attempt is emblematic of the exact lack of attention to detail that has plagued Florida all four seasons of the Billy Napier Era.

So if one thinks Gator fans are being negative for the sake of being negative, they have seen this film before, and they didn't like the ending. And because these mistakes keep happening and the operations look like something that wouldn't be accepted from a JV coach, "Fire Billy" is a more than fair response.
