After a week off, thanks to the bye week, Billy Napier took to the podium at Florida for the first time since losing to Miami as the Gators prep for Texas.

Among the array of topics that came up was playcalling, and once again Napier seems to think he is still the solution for the problem that he created.

Billy Napier: "It's what got us here"

During his press conference, Napier tried to defend the fact that he is still calling plays for Florida by pointing out that there are still a number of head coaches who call plays.

This is true, but Napier's rationale and defense of his offense have plenty of Gator fans riled up:

"It's Year 8 for me. It's the way we've done it. It helped us get here. There are a lot of guys still doing it, too. I think each year you're evaluating what is best for the team."

Pause... deep breaths... wiggle fingers... raise eyebrows...

THE FACT THAT...

We've been through this before... remember what the doctor said about high blood pressure...

The fact that it's year eight and this is what the offense looks like is the problem. Billy Napier is 20-22 during his time with Florida, so planting a flag and declaring "It helped us get here" probably isn't what should be pointed out here.

Because Napier is right, a stagnant offense that appears to have a playcaller who selects its plays with the same purpose as someone who has to Ask Madden helped get Florida to 20-22.

We've chronicled this before, but it is an illusion and a facade that his offenses have ever been great in his career. Counting 2025, Billy Napier has now been a D1 OC or Head Coach for 11 seasons.

Only twice has he finished in the top 25 for yards per play, and only once has he finished in the top 25 for points per game.

And, even if his offenses are what got him to Gainesville, the fact that he doesn't think he has to evolve within the SEC is part of the problem plaguing the Gators right now.

Opposing coordinators have had no fear of Napier's offense in 2025 and have just sat on every underneath route Napier has attempted, and it's not an accident that Florida has three touchdowns in its last three games.

And yet as the ship continues to sink in Gainesville, it is led by a captain who is determined to go down with the ship rather than try litteraly anything to save it.
