As the Florida Gators look to move forward following the loss to USF last Saturday, they will be doing so with one less potential flip candidate on their recruiting board.

Wide receiver Somourian Wingo announced yesterday that he is "shutting down" his recruitment and is going to stick with his verbal commitment to Miami.

Wingo was on campus in Gainesville over the weekend and was in attendance for Florida's debacle over USF.

The loss was apparently all Wingo needed to see to end Florida's flip attempts.

The four-star wide receiver is basically ranked the same by all three major services, around 150th overall in the nation. When we profiled the St. Augustine prospect back in June, we said:

"On film, it doesn't matter if Wingo lines up in the slot or out wide; he is a touchdown threat on every play. What impresses the most about Wingo is not only his catch radius, which gives him the ability to go up and catch almost anything thrown in his direction but also his ability to keep the play going and turn it into six points.

He doesn't necessarily have blinding speed, but he does have the ability to punish secondaries who try to play press coverage on him.

As a junior, he had 71 catches for 1,119 yards and 14 touchdowns during the 2024 season."

Wingo took an official visit to Florida on June 6. He also took official visits to Miami, Alabama, and South Carolina.

On July 17, Wingo announced his commitment to Miami, but Florida didn't give up the pursuit.

As it stands, the Gators have 19 commits and are ranked 14th in the 247 Team Composite. Florida currently has one wide receiver committed as part of the class, four-star Marquez Daniel out of Alabama.
