Kansas City prospect and former Florida Gator Jac Caglianone was called up on Sunday night by the Royals from Double-A Northwest Arkansas to the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers.

In 38 games in Double-A, he hit .322/.394/.553, with a .947 OPS. He had eight doubles, nine home runs, 43 RBIs, 32 runs scored, and two bases stolen. With just over a month in Double-A, the Royals knew it was time to move him up.

Defensively, Caglianone has been spending time between first base and the outfield in Double-A, as the Royals have been saying they could use both in the infield and outfield. Between those positions, he fielded .991, with 206 putouts, 17 assists, and 12 double plays.

Caglianone, who was drafted in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft less than a year ago, is ranked as MLB’s 10th overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and is quickly making his way from the draft to the big leagues. He will start by joining the Double-A Storm Chasers on Tuesday night when they open their series against the Angels’ Triple-A affiliate Salt Lake City Bees.

The Royals have said from the start that they are being patient with the 22-year old, however, after just over a month in Double-A, the question now will be how fast he adjusts into the Triple-A. Depending on the Royals’ needs, which offensively right now, they could use the help, Caglianone could see his number called as early as this summer into the big leagues.

Kansas City ranks last in all of baseball this season with just 30 home runs and are in fourth place in the American League Central at 26-22. The need for offensive help is there, the question will be how Caglianone fairs in Triple-A and how quickly the Royals decide to give him his shot.
