While the current Florida Gators team is working in fall camp. Numerous former Gators in the NFL are also working in their own training camp. One former Gator in particular is working really hard to make sure he keeps his starting role with his NFL team.
Former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson has been in the NFL for two years now and is heading into his third, but he has a lot of work to do. In his first two seasons, Richardson has dealt with injury and conditioning problems, and now, in year three, suddenly, the Indianapolis Colts have a few other quarterbacks in the room for him to battle with.
The Colts signed former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones this offseason, and also drafted Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. When the Colts released their first unofficial depth chart today, in the QB1 spot, it read "Daniel Jones OR Anthony Richardson SR..," which does not look good for the former Gator.

That means that right now, the Colts aren't committing to Richardson as the starter. When he was drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, the plan was for Richardson to take over the starting quarterback role, but injuries and other things on the field have now put his starting role in jeopardy, as the Colts don't want to wait any longer to make their playoff run this season.
In two seasons with the Colts, Richardson has played a total of 15 games due to a shoulder injury and also being benched at one point. Now the Colts are trying to find their next franchise quarterback, and that was thought to be Richardson, but with Jones and Leonard now in the mix, things could be changing in Indy.
Richardson really has to start standing out at training camp if he wants to secure his starting role for the 2025 NFL season; if not, he could find himself sitting on the bench in the backup role yet again.
