Prior to last week’s opener, we didn’t have a clear idea of what to expect from Florida. We had spent the entire offseason with ideas of what Jon Sumrall was bringing to Gainesville, but it is one thing to talk about it, and it is another to show it.
So now, with a baseline to go off of, the Gators are set to take on Campbell in a game that shouldn’t be close, but also will have a couple of areas of intrgue to look for.
Florida is a massive favorite over Campbell

Trying to cover a 49.5-point line against anyone is tough, in large part because the 2nd half can get screwy once the 2nd and 3rd units start to get snaps. But before we launch into what we think the score could get to, we’ll just state that if the backups are not in by the 4th quarter, something has gone wrong.
And to Campbell’s credit, they are better than originally advertised. But this is still a roster of guys who would almost all struggle to crack even Florida’s third unit. Gator fans are entering today out for blood because of what we witnessed last week against FAU. If Florida can put up 66 points against FAU, who is to say they won’t top 70 tonight?
But as we have highlighted throughout the week, the biggest tell from this game is going to be the approach of Florida’s defense. The Gators were far too passive and conservative against FAU and allowed far too many easy completions underneath. Campbell QB Kamden Sixkiller might not be a future Heisman winner, but he has gone north of 300 yards in both of his games this year with a completion percentage north of 65% in both games. If Florida opts to play soft again, Campbell could put together two or three drives and score some points.
There just isn’t a pathway on paper for Florida’s offense to get slowed down unless it starts committing a ton of mental errors. And knowing from last week that Sumrall doesn’t plan to take his foot off the gas, we are going to dream big today.
