Florida soccer joins the party as Gators’ dominance over FSU keeps growing

Things haven’t always been great for the Gators over the last few years, but one thing that has remained consistent in Gainesville has been the ability to defeat the Neighbors to the West at FSU. The Gators have been dominant over FSU in football, baseball, softball, and basketball over the past couple of years.

Now we can add soccer to that list, as Florida pulled off a massive upset over FSU that not only continues the beatdown of the Seminoles across all sports, but also signals a new era in Gainesville on the pitch.

Florida beats FSU 3-1

Nick Zimmerman has brought an attack-minded approach to the Gators, and the mindset paid off on Sunday with a massive 3-1 upset over the No. 3 Seminoles. Kyra Taylor scored in the 22nd minute off a corner kick to give Florida a 1-0 lead. She doubled it up in the 62nd minute with another goal to make it 2-0, and Montelene Dymond slammed the door in the 79th minute with a beautiful one on one move on the keeper to make it 3-0. FSU got a goal back in the 83rd minute.

It’s not like this win was a fluke either, as Florida outshot FSU 14-8. To show how quickly this program has turned around, the Gators were outscored 14-0 in the past four meetings against FSU. And to give an idea of how much of an attack-minded approach Zimmerman has brought, the Gators scored three or more goals only eight times under previous coach Samantha Bohon. The most times Florida had scored at least three goal in a game for an entire season was three.

Zimmerman’s squad has scored at least three goals in all three games it has played this season.

The win also adds to the dominance that Florida has over FSU across the board. As X user @AniruddhC1108 pointed out, Florida has now beaten FSU in the last meeting between the two in:

• Football (Two game winning streak)
• Men’s Basketball (Five-game winning streak)
• Women’s Basketball 
• Baseball (Four-game winning streak)
• Softball
• Soccer

Should this surprise anyone? No, not really. As we've pointed out over the years, FSU as a whole is a sinking ship that's been desperate to find a lifeboat. And quite frankly, Florida doesn’t need to be the one to extend them a lifeboat with an invite to the SEC.

Because remember FSU's arrogance when they were left out of the playoffs and threw a month-long pity party, only to get smashed by Georgia?

Yeah, we remember too.
