The transfer portal has a tendency to take from the Florida Gators, but it also has the possibility to give as well. The portal doesn’t officially open until Friday, but several key members, including DJ Lagway, Eugene Wilson, and Jayden Woods, have announced their plans to hit the portal.

But other teams are losing key players as well, and one major domino is set to hit the portal with an intriguing connection to Florida’s new coaching staff.

Cam Coleman set to hit the portal

Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman is set to hit the transfer portal, as that news was reported by multiple outlets on Monday. Coleman was a composite top-five player in the country in the class of 2024, and while he didn’t live up to “superstar” status, he was still a productive player for Auburn these last two seasons.

As a true freshman, he had 37 catches for 598 yards and eight TDs. This past season, he had 56 catches for 708 yards and five TDs. Coleman was 96th in the country in total yards and 77th in total catches in 2025.

Aubrun’s offense as a whole didn’t give Coleman much help in 2025, and even though they now have Alex Goelsh in charge, Coleman has opted to hit the portal.

The initial rumblings include Texas A&M as a team to keep an eye on, but this is where Marcus Davis comes into play.

Davis was the Auburn wide receiver coach who recruited Coleman and coached him the past two seasons, and will be the wide receiver coach for the Gators in 2026. One would have to imagine Jon Sumrall has already instructed Davis to reach out to Coleman and see what the level of interest may be.

Combined with new offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, there is a lot to sell Coleman on, but there is also the reality of the modern-day caveat that is NIL.

Florida already has big money locked up with Vernell Brown III, and they are still trying to lock up Dallas Wilson for 2026. If Wilson does stay, would Florida have the money to pay Coleman the inevitable sky-high price tag that is going to be required to land him?

We don’t have those answers, but it could turn into an interesting case study of how much money should be dedicated to one position group.

The transfer portal officially opens on Friday.
