LagThe headline coming out of Saturday’s spring game, one way or another, is bound to be the play of Florida’s two QBs, who are seemingly competing for the starter’s job. Both Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones are going to get their one and only public showcase before the season opener against FAU, and at least some fans will probably have their mind made up as to who should be the starter after Saturday.

But on any given play, there are 21 other players on the field, and these are three areas fans are going to keep an eye on this Saturday in The Swamp.

What does Florida’s offensive line look like?

Based on reports that have come from Florida’s two scrimmages, along with comments Jon Sumrall has made himself, the offensive line seems to be lagging behind where Florida’s coaching staff wants it. It’s understandable considering it is spring and that Florida is having to work in a ton of new bodies from 2025.

Phil Trautwein has his work cut out for him, but one hopes that the offensive line can at least offer up some resistance to give at least some form of hope heading into the offseason.

What will safety play look like in 2026?

If you want a group that has been under the radar all spring and feels like it has barely been talked about, look no further than the safeties. While Florida’s corners have made plays throughout the spring and at both scrimmages, very little has been said about the back end of the defense.

We know Bryce Thornton is back and is probably a starter for 2026. Beyond that, who knows? Transfer Cam Dooley will certainly make a strong push, while returners Lagonza Hayward, Alfonso Allen, Drake Stubbs, and freshman Kaiden Hall all are going to look to make some form of a splash.

If no one steps up this Saturday, this could become a storyline heading into the summer.

Just how physical is physical under Jon Sumrall?

One thing Sumrall has talked about all spring long is the need for Florida to be physical, and he claims that Florida won’t be taking it easy on each other this Saturday.

The question is, what exactly does that look like? Because if the end result is just another ho-hum spring game effort, questions might start to form as to whether Sumrall’s words match his actions.

But if the game is hard-hitting and physical, word might start to get around that Florida will, in fact, be a new-look team in 2026.
