The 2026 SEC Football Media Days are just around the corner. The event will take place in Tampa this year, and the Gators announced they will bring Jadan Baugh, Vernell Brown III, and Myles Graham to join Jon Sumrall on July 22 to meet with members of the SEC media.
For the most part, the event is a chance to set the tone for the season and for each team to set its vision for 2026. For Florida specifically, the three players Sumrall is bringing are also symbolic of the talent that stayed in Gainesville rather than jumping ship.
Florida announced trio of players for SEC Media Days 2026
If we rewind to last year, Billy Napier sent out his now-infamous “Spot the ball” tweet, and the players he brought with him tried their best to echo the words of Napier. DJ Lagway stated at the event that “It doesn't matter where we are -- spot the ball. That's kind of our mindset and that's kind of what we took on when we went down that stretch -- spot the ball. It doesn't matter who's there in front of us, they've got to play the Florida Gators."
Oops.
Heading into this year’s event, who knows what Sumrall can say that he hasn’t already said at some point during his offseason podcast tour. But as much as anything, it’s the trio of Baugh, Brown, and Graham that symbolize the bridge between Napier and Sumrall and represent the cornerstone of pieces that Sumrall has to work with heading into 2026.
All three players could have very easily left for higher ground after the dumpster fire of 2025, and frankly, no one would have blamed them. Graham and Brown ended up coming back without too much drama, but as we all remember, it was not as easy to get Baugh back. In the end, all three, plus Dallas Wilson and Jayden Woods, all came back.
Their returns also signal the vision Sumrall was able to sell to the team as a whole. Obviously, Florida still has to take the field for real, and, if we are being blunt, Gator fans were highly optimistic this time last year.
It’s notable that Florida isn’t bringing a QB among its trio, but it turns out that seven of the 16 schools in the SEC aren’t bringing a QB. And if the trio Florida is actually bringing to Tampa can step up and be the stars in 2026 that all three have the possibility to be, the Gators are going to be just fine in Sumrall’s maiden voyage.
