DJ Lagway is locked in and ready to go.

The Gators sophomore quarterback took his spin through the media car wash yesterday at SEC Media Days and covered everything from the early days of his recruitment to his recovery from a nagging shoulder injury that slowed him down during the offseason.

Lagway showed maturity beyond his years during his media session. It's clear the sophomore is ready to take on a leadership role in the program and his words confirmed that he is prepared for any and all challenges the Gators may face this year.

"It doesn't matter where we are -- spot the ball," Lagway said. "That's kind of our mindset and that's kind of what we took on when we went down that stretch -- spot the ball. It doesn't matter who's there in front of us, they've got to play the Florida Gators."

That's the mindset that Billy Napier wants out of his team this year.

Teammates can't help but say gushing things about DJ Lagway

The one thing every starting quarterback has to do to be successful is win the locker room. Football is the ultimate team spot and a quarterback that has command of the huddle and respect among his peers in the locker room is going to be successful.

Lagway is checking off all the boxes, and it's important for a young player to show that kind of leadership, especially one that comes in with all the hype that Lagway does. There could always be some jealousy towards a 'can't miss, five-star prospect' like Lagway, especially when pundits declare that such a player is going to 'save a program'.

There appear to be no such issues with Lagway in the Gators locker room.

Lagway's teammates had the opportunity to speak publicly about their quarterback and repeatedly put over his work ethic and team-first mentality.

"He's made tremendous strides, it feels like every day he's just a little bit better, and he's seeing it better," center Jake Slaughter told Graham Hall of 247Sports.  "It's really special to be around a guy like him who works the way he does, who's committed to being the best version of himself."
