It’s a long, long, long time since Gator fans have been able to gather at The Swamp for a non-practice game to watch Florida take on an opposing team. And there will certainly be plenty of buzz in Gainesville for the debut of Jon Sumrall.
Given that kickoff is at 7:45 PM, there will be plenty of time for fans to tailgate ahead of the game. And given that it is a new season with a new cast of characters in Gainesville, we here at Hail Florida Hail have some beverage ideas to try out at your tailgate today.
New drinks for Florida fans to try at their tailgate
The Jon Sumrall - This one would basically just be a vodka Red Bull, but the key is that you are probably going to need three cans of Red Bull for every shot of vodka added. You’ll be so amped afterward that you might throw something at an FAU fan.
The Buster Faulkner - Gin, Turmeric, Lemon Juice, Agave Syrup, Ginger Beer. Should this combination work at all, especially with adding turmeric into the mix? No, not at all. But the key to making a Buster Faulkner is taking things no one else would dream of taking and making them into a surprisingly refreshing drink.
The Brad White - Rum and Coke. It’s safe and can get the job done in the right setting. Too much of it, though, especially in crazy heat, can cause it to get exposed.
The Billy Napier - Take a standard 12-ounce can, open it, pour out two ounces right away, then try and convince everyone that you still have a full can, and you aren’t sure why anyone is questioning that you don’t.
The Scott Stricklin - Take that same can from The Billy Napier, go sell it for $10, and if anyone tries to question it, you point out that the can has a Gator logo on it and we are all in this together.
The Rusty Witt - Vodka, Goldschläger, Champagne. On the surface, this doesn’t seem too bad to try and take on, and then once one tries to tackle it, they immediately regret their choices in life. But you also come out stronger for it on the other side.
The Steve Spurrier - Bourbon, Citrus syrup, Peach bitters, Orange peel. This take on an Old Fashioned gives a bit of a sweet tea taste and is perfect for a Southern legend like Spurrier.
