The cornerstone for any recruiting class is going to be the QB who signs on the dotted line for their respective team. After going through the DJ Lagway Expirence in 2024 and 2025, Florida’s approach over the past couple of years has been to target a middle-tier four-star QB rather than the “can’t miss” five-star.

As the class of 2028 for Florida is starting to take shape, they appear one step closer to landing their QB for this group.

Hudson West gets another prediction to land at Florida

Tyler Harden of Swamp247 has logged a crystal ball prediction that Sarasota QB Hudson West is going to eventually commit to Florida. Harden is not the first recruiting insider to make this prediction, but it is a reminder that the Gators continue to be in hot pursuit of West.

We’ve been following West since June, when he appeared at Florida’s Friday Night Lights event and was extended an offer. At the time, West was a lower-rated three-star. But Sumrall saw something in West that he liked, and we noted at the time that:

“But the belief is that this will change over time, as West has been getting more and more attention and is starting to rack up notable offers. On film, he uses his 6’5” frame well, and he stays tall in the pocket. He has a quick release, but it’s one that seldom feels panicked or rushed. He also isn’t someone who locks in and automatically goes with his first read, which is a great sign for a class of 2028 prospect.”

His ranking has, in fact, changed since June, and in the 247 Composite he is now ranked No. 156 overall as a mid-tier four-star. So far during his junior high school campaign, West has 2,450 passing yards with a 66% completion rate. He has 30 passing TDs against just three INTs. He also has five rushing TDs.

Watching his midseason junior film, a lot of those traits from his sophomore film are still there. His footwork does feel a bit jumpy at times, but in the moments where the pocket around him starts to collapse, he generally speaking isn’t trying to escape out the back as his first option. In fact, he has several throws where he climbs the pocket and delievers a 30-yard strike while getting hit.

As with any junior prospect, there is still over a year to go before West could sign on the dotted line, even if he committed to Florida today. But with all the momentum pointing to Gainesville, Hudson West will remain a prospect to keep an eye on.
