Florida had its Friday Night Lights event this weekend and had a number of class of 2028 prospects in Gainesville to work out in front of Florida’s coaches. Of the QBs in attendance, Kingston Preyear was probably the most notable name to work out. Florida also had Knox Kiffin in town, whose father is, well, you know.

But there was another under-the-radar QB who has been picking up steam and had a bit of buzz to him coming out of the event this weekend.

Hudson West throws at Florida’s Friday Night Lights event

Hudson West is a QB out of Sarasota. Listed at 6’5” and 190 pounds, Rivals is the only service to have him ranked so far, and they have him as a lower-tier three-star.

But the belief is that this will change over time, as West has been getting more and more attention and is starting to rack up notable offers. On film, he uses his 6’5” frame well, and he stays tall in the pocket. He has a quick release, but it’s one that seldom feels panicked or rushed. He also isn’t someone who locks in and automatically goes with his first read, which is a great sign for a class of 2028 prospect.

He could benefit from stepping into throws a bit more, and his completion percentage of 55% will need to improve, but he also averaged 257 yards per game in 2025 and had 26 TDs against just five INTs, so he has a great base to work with. Keep in mind, too, West put up those stats on a 4-7 team, so it’s also not like he is surrounded by an all-star roster.

In some ways, his game reminds us of Florida’s class of 2027 QB Davin Davidson, who is also out of the Sarasota area.

West drew great reviews across Friday and Saturday, and the weekend went so well that he left Gainesville with an offer from Florida. The Gators join Kentucky, FSU, Georgia Tech, Colorado, and Louisville as notable programs that have made an offer to West.

Whether or not West becomes the one that Jon Sumrall zeroes in on as his QB for the class of 2028 is still too early to tell, as West will still need to navigate his junior year of high school, and Florida will also have its eyes on guys like Preyear.

But given his proximity to Gainesville and a parallel arc to their 2027 QB, West is certainly a name Florida fans should keep an eye on this upcoming high school season.
