Florida’s former GM has a tweet aging in the most ironic way imaginable

Just Sun Belt Billy and the Boys...

One of the more comical moments of the 2025 season for Florida was right after the Gators beat Texas. Then GM Jacob LaFrance tweeted out “Sun Belt Billy and the boys...” as a shot at those who dared to question the ability of Billy Napier to lead the Gators.

As it turned out, Napier would only win one more game before being fired. And given the new job that LaFrance just picked up, his tweet is a candidate for the Old Takes Exposed Hall of Fame.

Florida’s former GM follows Billy Napier to James Madison

It was reported over the weekend that LaFrance was following Napier to James Madison and will be the Associate Athletic Director for Football Personnel for the Dukes. If you are keeping score at home, James Madison plays in the Sun Belt Conference, and so technically speaking, LaFrance will now be working with Sun Belt Billy.

It’s a life comes at you fast moment that is also emblematic of Napier’s entire staff during his time in Gainesville. Napier tried to have a picture painted of him that made it seem like he was this caring guy who was trying his best to turn the ship around at Florida.

But Napier never seemed to heed any of the warnings or criticism given to him and continued to foolishly believe that his methodology was going to work because it had once worked in the Sun Belt. Even worse, and why LaFrance’s now-deleted tweet drew such backlash from Gator fans back on October 4, is because the instant the tiniest of things went right, the staff was looking around wanting its flowers.

Whether or not LaFrance’s tweet was aimed at rivals or at Gator fans themselves, it was such a tone-deaf tweet for a staff that will go down as the worst Florida has had since World War II, and on that would get the hook just two weeks later.

Throw in allegations that LaFrance made a burner account to go after Gator fans, and there is a reason they are back in the Sun Belt and probably will stay for the foreseeable future.
