One of the things Florida fans have learned over the years is to take things in the world of recruiting with a grain of salt. Especially in this modern world of NIL, there is a belief at times that prospects will simply use Florida as a vessel to extract more money from the school they are actually committing to.
Florida has two of the biggest names in recruiting in town this weekend for their official visits, and they appear to be having a grand time in Gainesville. Now the question becomes whether those good vibes are going to translate into an actual flip to become a Gator.
Easton Royal and Jalen Brewster make their official visits to Florida
Five-star wide receiver Easton Royal and five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster are in Gainesville for their respective official visits. As it stands right now, Royal is committed to Texas while Brewster is committed to Texas Tech. But these are two players Jon Sumrall has had on his radar for quite some time, and Florida has kept pushing and pushing to pull off a flip on both.
Ahead of his visit, Brewster posted a promo hype video to announce his arrival. During this visit, he and Royal have been seen side by side, taking matching uniform photos, and at one point, Brewster put on the mascot head of Albert for some photos.
Royal tweeted out during this visit on Thursday, “YUHH WE TURNT INNA SWAMP! I CAN USED TO THIS!!!”
And so, while things appear to be going well, and most insider reports would indicate that Florida is a genuine contender to flip both players, the skeptical Gator fans out there have also seen this scene play out before, where Florida was constantly within arm's reach of big-name prospects during the Billy Napier Era, only to fall short when it was time to put pen to paper.
We’ll just state what we stated prior to these visits:
Even if neither of these players flips, Florida’s class of 2027 is still in really good shape. Particularly at wide receiver, the Gators already have a cache of talented players committed. If we had to choose one over the other, Brewster would be our pick just because he would fill a need in this class more so than Royal.
But we also state this:
If Sumrall somehow gets both of these players to flip, look out. It would send a seismic message to the rest of college football that he isn’t here to play games, and if he can pull off these types of flips before ever coaching a single game for a team that was 4-8 last year, who knows what he could pull off once he has a genuine product on the field.
