Florida was a finalist for five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright, who was rated as the No. 1 overall receiver for 2028. Although Wright was choosing between three finalists in Miami, Texas and the Gators, the Mandarin High School prospect ultimately picked Miami:

The decision wasn't too much of a surprise, as he was projected to end up at Miami per 247Sports' Crystal Ball projections as well as Rivals' projections. But what was a surprise is that with Wright's announcement, he also reclassified from the class of 2028 to the current 2027 class.
Florida misses chance to go two-for-two on five-star WRs for 2027
With his switch to the 2027 class, Wright is rated per the 247Sports Composite as the No. 3 receiver, behind Florida commit Easton Royal, who flipped to Florida from Texas last month. He is also one spot behind five-star Monshun Sales, who is committed to Indiana.
Wright's addition to Miami's 2027 class puts the Canes' 2027 class at No. 2 overall per the 247Sports Composite, one spot behind Texas A&M's class. Mario Cristobal's class now features five guys ranked as five-stars, the most in the country. Florida's 2027 class checks in at No. 8 overall, with five-stars in Royal and offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller, who committed to Sumrall's class in April.
In addition to establishing a recruiting stronghold in the St. Johns and Duval counties, Coach Sumrall will look to re-establish Florida's reputation as a destination to be developed as an NFL wide receiver. Per Wright, that's what separated Miami from his final schools, as well as the chance to play with Canes star receiver Malachi Toney.
“The development,” Wright told Rivals Steve Wiltfong in an interview. “Getting to the league. And just the relationship with the coaches. The guys I’m going against in practice and stuff like that. Being around guys I know that’s going to push me and keep me working hard.”
In addition to Royal, Florida's 2027 class also has wideouts in four-stars Elias Pearl from Port Charlotte and Tramond Collins from Cottondale, Fla.. Three-star and Fort Lauderdale prospect Anthony Jennings has also been committed since April.
Yes, Florida does have other guys in this class that help build out the receiver position. But getting a day-one ready talent like Wright to complement Royal in the 2027 class would have been huge for Sumrall's first full recruiting class of his tenure.
We'll see if Florida will try and get Wright to flip in between now and Early Signing Day in about a month, or turn its attention elsewhere on the recruiting trail.
