First-year head coach Jon Sumrall has done some great work on the recruiting trail so far. He already has 12-blue-chips committed to his 2027 class, headlined by his flip of five-star Easton Royal from Texas last month.

Now, the next target in his crosshairs is the No. 1 overall receiver from the 2028 class, Brysen Wright. The Mandarin High School prospect out of Jacksonville, Fla. has officially set his commitment date.

Florida is a finalist for 5-star Brysen Wright, who sets commitment date

According to Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, Wright is down to his final three schools, which includes Florida. The Gators will be competing against his other two finalists in Texas and Miami. The five-star will be announcing his commitment on Thursday, Nov. 5:

Per the 247Sports Composite, Wright is also ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect out of Florida, and checks in at No. 3 nationally. He has taken unofficial visits to each of his three finalists in recent weeks, including Texas on Sept. 12, Florida on Sept. 26—where he saw the Ole Miss upset first-hand—and Miami on Oct. 17.

If Sumrall ends up landing Wright, it will be somewhat of a big surprise. Florida's primary competition in landing Wright is Miami. 247Sports' Crystal Ball prediction has him as a 100% lock to land at the Canes, Rivals has that at 98%. Miami also hosted Wright last of his unofficial visits before he set his commitment date.

247Sports lists Wright as 6-foot-3.5 and 215 pounds. According to MaxPreps he has had 121 receptions for 2,592 yards with 29 touchdowns across his last three seasons. His current junior season has been his most productive yet, as he's averaging a career-high 98.4 yards per game with 11 touchdowns.

247Sports' scouting director Andrew Ivins describes Wright as a receiver that can "manufacture space like few others in recent cycles and turn 50-50 passes into 80-20 propositions with his bounce, coordination and extension."

He has gone viral for several of his circus-like catches, such as this one from the Overtime Elite camp this past summer:

The highly-touted recruit also has over 150,00 followers on Instagram.

Florida's 2028 class has three verbal commits in receiver Armani Strong, safety Cyion Smith and offensive tackle Samuel Bailey. If Wright were to commit, he would be the highest-rated prospect of the bunch. If the Gators pull off a surprise, it could further get the ball rolling for Sumrall in the class, which ranks seventh nationally.

But Miami is the clear favorite here on all accounts. So unless Sumrall pulls off a shocker on the recruiting trail, Gators fans shouldn't hold their breath for Wright.
