Florida has been one of the most difficult teams in the country to figure out in 2026. At their peak, the Gators look like a team that could be the last team standing in Omaha in June. At their valley, Florida looks like a team that wouldn’t even qualify for the Little League World Series.

With their path to Omaha now set, Florida did gain one massive distinction for the NCAA Tournament that could make their path to the CWS just a bit easier.

Florida earns No. 8 seed for the NCAA Tournament

Florida was given the No. 8 national seed for the NCAA Tournament. Their Regional round is set to feature Rider, Troy, and Miami. Obviously, all eyes are going to be locked on a potential Florida and Miami matchup, which the Gators should feel confident with, given their recent history of success against the Hurricanes, including winning both games the two teams played this season in Coral Gables.

Should Florida navigate its Regional, getting the No. 8 national seed is a massive distinction as it puts the Gators in line to host Super Regionals if they advance. The Gators are set to meet up with the winner of the Hattiesburg Regional, which will feature Southern Mississippi, Little Rock, Jacksonville State, and Virginia.

It’s also notable that Florida is a top-eight seed, given they have only had that distinction once since 2018. In 2023, Florida was the No. 2 overall seed and made it within one game of winning the national title. In addition, Florida hasn’t failed to make a CWS as a top-eight seed since 2014.

The storyline for Florida heading into the NCAA Tournament is going to be whether or not they have officially exorcised the ghosts that led to their elimination in last year’s tournament. Last year, ECU played small ball, and Florida had zero answers. And there have been times in 2026 when some of those ghosts have lingered.

But Florida has played much stronger baseball down the stretch and ultimately finished 18-12 in SEC play and made a run to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.

Game one of the Gainesville Regional is set to get underway on Friday against Rider.
