Florida has been on such a heater in recruiting that it seems like they have been able to land anyone that they want. After three more commitments over the weekend, the Gators are up to 22 commits for the class of 2027 and are in the top five of all the main rankings.
At this point, Florida is in a position where they just have a couple of spots to sew up while they take a swing at some of the lingering big fish that remain uncommitted. One of those big fish just wrapped up his official visit and has the Gators in his final three.
Florida makes final three for Eric McFarland
Eric McFarland is a wide receiver from IMG by way of Las Vegas. Listed at 5’8” and 176 pounds, ESPN has him as a five-star while Rivals and 247 have him as a very high four-star. His composite rating is a five-star with both Rivals and 247. He was considered a class of 2028 prospect, but he reclassified back in December to be a class of 2027 member.
On film, the name of McFarland’s game is his run-after-catch ability. There are times when he legit looks like Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl, and you simply can not bring him down, no matter how many guys you send at him. When he does keep his balance, there are some serious afterburners to him. He is mostly used for either screens or go routes, so his game reminds us of Eugene Wilson III if Wilson were ever allowed to go down the field.
McFarland just wrapped up his official visit, and it went well enough that he has Florida in his final three alongside Texas A&M and Georgia. While Florida certainly has plenty to offer and McFarland feels like he would be a perfect fit for the Buster Faulkner offense, the belief is that Texas A&M is the clear favorite to land McFarland. He just took his visit with the Aggies the last week of May.
He is set to make his decision on June 28.
The positive thing for Gator fans is that Florida already has Elias Pearl, Tramond Collins, and Anthony Jennings committed as wide receivers for the class of 2027, so it’s not the end of the world if McFarland chooses Texas A&M.
But if Florida can go toe-to-toe with the Aggies and beat them out, it would be a major feather in the cap for Jon Sumrall.
