Florida has been on an absolute heater in recruiting and is up to 22 commits and is in the top five of all the rankings, with the 247 Composite Rankings putting the Gators at No. 3 in the country. We here at Hail Florida Hail try our best not to just follow the star rankings, and at times, we have opinions on prospects that might not match what the star rankings say.
With that in mind, these are the five prospects who have verbally committed to Florida that excite us the most for the class of 2027.
Florida’s best prospects for the class of 2027
Maxwell Hiller (OT, No. 3 overall in 247 Composite)
Yes, we did just say star rankings are not always everything, but it is hard not to buy into the hype that surrounds Hiller. His film looks every bit like a five-star film should look and he is the type of player who will make opponents want to quit football. With the type of development that offensive line coach Phil Trautwein is known for, don’t be shocked if Hiller is a first round pick down the road in the NFL.
Cahron Wheeler (EDGE, No. 108 in 247 Composite)
One of Florida’s newest commits, Wheeler just has that “it” factor when watching his film. He features the perfect blend of power and explosiveness, and as he learns a couple of additional pass-rushing moves to his arsenal, he could very much crack the rotation for Florida in 2027.
Davin Davidson (QB, No. 126 in 247 Composite)
Being the QB of this class, Davidson is going to get more headlines than some others, even though he is only the 7th highest-ranked player in Florida’s class of 2027. But Davidson has all the makings of a hidden gem, especially since he was virtually unranked back in December. He might not have the pure arm strength that flashes in a camp setting, but he is just a sound QB who brings a ton of potential to the table.
Ellis McGaskin (LB, No. 352 in 247 Composite)
Maybe it is just recency bias since he just committed on Saturday, but McGaskin is such an explosive player, and the only reason he seems to be lower in the rankings is because of his size. But if he can bulk up even just a little bit, don’t be shocked if McGaskin morphs into a wrecking ball in the middle of the field for the Gators.
Jackson Ballinger (TE, No. 414 in 247 Composite)
Ballinger is a player who hasn’t been talked about much since he committed to Florida back in February, but make no mistake, he has all the tools to be a starting TE in the SEC. He may not be the fastest player on the field, but he already plays the position as one would on Saturdays, which isn’t that common when evaluating high school tight ends. He may not be Kyle Pitts, but he feels like he could wind up as an upgrade compared to what the position has been since Pitts left.
