Florida Gators HC Billy Napier provides concerning injury update on DJ Lagway
This is just brutal for the Florida Gators and head coach Billy Napier. In the first half of the showdown against No. 2 Georgia, the Gators were doing enough to stay on top of UGA, but some unfortunate injury adversity arrived in the second quarter.
Freshman sensation DJ Lagway tried to make a play with his legs, but he fell to the turf in awkward fashion. He immediately grabbed his hamstring and stayed on the ground. Not long after, a cart was brought out onto the field for him and the youngster was taken back to the locker room.
Since then, Napier has provided an update on his signal-caller, but it's not the one fans were hoping for. According to Napier, Lagway has suffered a 'significant' hamstring injury. It's up in the air how much time he'll miss, but we shouldn't expect him back on the field in the near future:
Billy Napier said freshman QB DJ Lagway suffered a significant hamstring injury vs. Georgia
With Lagway hurt, Napier had to turn the offense over to walk-on QB Aidan Warner. Because of this latest injury, it's unknown just how much time Lagway will be forced to miss, but again, it doesn't seem like Napier's update should provide people with confidence he'll be back soon.
Next week, Florida will take on No. 6 Texas and then the week after there's a huge battle against No. 16 LSU on the way. That's an SEC rivalry people are always fired up for, but potentially not having Lagway available for that game is going to be rough for the Gators.
Before getting injured, Lagway had powered Florida to a lead over Georgia, tossing a dime of a touchdown to Aidan Mizell for a 43-yard score. More information on Lagway's hamstring will be coming out over the next few days, but the early report is not a good one. Nope, not at all.
