There is nothing that can be done or said right now that's going to calm people down in Gainesville. The Florida Gators had a chance to make a statement on the road against No. 5 Texas on Saturday. Matter of fact, it was on Billy Napier to prove to everyone that Scott Stricklin didn't make a mistake in announcing he'll be back next season.
However, the decision from the Florida AD is now looking like a disaster, as Texas pounded Florida on Saturday in Austin. The final score was 49-17? Not only that, but the Longhorns were up 35-0 at halftime, which no one expected.
Now what for Florida? This team is now 4-5 on the season and there were moments on Saturday where it looked like the players had given up in the middle of a play. That can't ever happen and it's on Napier all the way.
Florida fans are livid with Billy Napier following the 49-17 loss to Texas
Absolutely nothing went right for the Gators against Texas. We understand that they're the No. 5 team in the country for a reason, but still, couldn't Florida have at least made things close? Nope, that was never going to happen, apparently. Napier and Stricklin indeed are getting blasted on social media too:
Throughout history, Florida has been one of the most storied programs in college football. Now, though, it almost feels like we're flirting with rock bottom. When Napier was first hired, the hope was that he'd get things moving in the right direction.
Instead, we are in Year 3 and his team is looking like a national embarrassment. Stricklin telling him his job was safe after the Georgia loss was yet another mistake from him as AD. Florida got punched in the mouth all game and now folks are dunking all over the team too on social media. When it rains, it pours for Napier and Stricklin.
