Florida Football's George Gumbs doubles down on infuriating FSU over flag-planting

Last year, Florida Football helped put FSU out of their misery by pulling away for an easy 31-11 victory. The game was mostly a mundane game that Seminole fans had little juice for and even though DJ Lagway was just 14/22 for 133 yards, the defensive line lived in the backfield and collected eight sacks on the night.

One of those sacks went to George Gumbs, who provided the most memorable of the night when he ran to midfield after the game and planted a flag at midfield. Mike Norvell proceeded to ask for a manager, and Billy Napier offered a meek apology afterwards.

But no one really believed Florida was sincere in being sorry, and Gumbs basically confirmed on Tuesday that all is fair in love and war.

Florida Football: Do It Again

Gumbs was in a press conference on Tuesday when the topic of flag planting came up. Florida was one of a number of teams during rivarly week who took to midfield to let everyone know who the winner was. The animosity didn't rise to the level we saw with Michigan and Ohio State, but there were punches thrown throughout the scuffle.

If the scenario presented itself again to Gumbs, now with the benefit of reflection, his response was simple:

"I would do it again."

Gumbs won over a lot of Gator fans by the end of the season and has etched his name as a folklore hero for years to come. The fact he still feels he would do it again is frankly the type of swagger the entire Florida team could benefit from.

Meanwhile, FSU's Karen-like response to flag planting was even more comical for two reasons:

1. The Seminoles were lifeless for all of 2024 and the only time they showed a hint of a fight was after their season was officially over.
2. FSU has a "Sod Cemetary" where they themselves take grass from opposing fields and bring it back to Tallahassee.

Florida and FSU will square off once again on November 29.
