One of the major subplots for Florida Football during signing day was the saga of five-star wide receiver Dallas Wilson. Multiple recruiting insiders had predicted he was going to flip from Oregon to Florida, but he wound up sticking with his commitment to head to Eugene.
But in another twist in his recruiting saga, Wilson may wind up being a Gator after all after he has requested to be released from his commitment to Oregon.
Florida Football: Merry Go Round
Zach Abolverdi of Gators Online has reported that Wilson has asked to be released from his financial affidavit to Oregon and the plan is to flip to Florida once the process is finalized.
Wilson was a long-time Oregon commit who popped up on the radar late for Florida. The Gators had been making a push for the Tampa native, but it wasn't until Florida's late-season surge that Billy Napier and crew looked like they had any chance at flipping him.
We profiled Wilson on signing day and said:
"Wilson is a composite five-star, with 247 being the only major service to individually rank him as a five-star. On3, Rivals, and ESPN all have him as a four-star, but all have him in the top 40.
On film, Wilson is not a pure speedster, but that doesn't stop him from making play after play deep. He has a great awareness of how to find space to get open, and he is not afraid to get physical to make a play on the ball. He is shifty enough once the ball is in his hands to make it a nightmare for defenses to tackle."
If Wilson does wind up in Florida, it would not be the first player Florida has been able to "flip" after they signed with another school.
Last year, Jameer Grimsley signed with Alabama but transferred out after Nick Saban retired, and Jason Zandamela transferred out from Southern Cal during the spring.
Florida famously had this go the other way when Jadan Rashada spurned Florida, and Chris Steele left during spring practice before that in 2019.
