Mandarin High out of Jacksonville gave the Gators two players out of their class of 2025: Tramell Jones and Drake Stubbs. Both Jones and Stubbs are slated to return to Gainesville for the 2026 season under new coach Jon Sumrall.

But there is one more player from that Mandarin High class of 2025 that the Gators were heavily after who wound up heading to Texas. After just one season in Austin, Jaime Ffrench is hitting the transfer portal.

Ffrench was a top 50 composite player in the class of 2025, and the Gators made a late push to flip him to Florida. He committed to Texas in August of 2024, but Florida got him on campus for a visit in November of 2024, and he was on campus for Florida’s upset win over LSU.

Ultimately, Florida never did get Ffrench to flip, and he signed with Texas.

But Ffrench never did make an impact during his true freshman year with the Longhorns. He played in just four games, took just 22 snaps, and had just one reception for six yards this year. Ffrench did not play in the game against Florida this season.

Now, Ffrench now playing much in 2025, wasn’t actually that unusual among top-rated wide receivers. Of the top ten rated receivers from the class of 2025 per the 247 Composite rankings, Florida’s Vernell Brown III and Dallas Wilson were two of the only three receivers to take at least 150 snaps in 2025 (with Oregon’s Dakorien Moore being the third).

Whatever the case, Ffrench has now opted to hit the transfer portal.

It’s not clear where Ffrench might be looking next, and even though the current Florida coaching staff isn’t the one that tried to recruit him a year ago, we would imagine that Jones and Stubbs will be in the ear of Sumrall to at least kick the tires.

Ffrench does still have four years of eligibility left.
