Florida Gators fans are anxiously waiting for when DJ Lagway is going to start training camp. The star QB missed all of spring camp with a shoulder issue, but the timeline that was painted by Florida is that he would be good to go come summertime.
After appearing at SEC Media Days and looking just fine, Lagway was then spotted in a walking boot with a reported calf issue.
By all indications, it is a minor injury, and there was some positive news reported on the injury on Thursday.
DJ Lagway out of his walking boot
Gators Online insider Zach Abolverdi appeared on The Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday and gave an update that makes it seem like Lagway is progressing right on schedule:
"The good news, and I reported this today at Gators Online, is that he's been out of his boot now. I know that he was out of his boot on Tuesday. He's moving around a lot better from what I've been told. And this is not a serious injury, it's just another setback for him and it's certainly a bummer for this football team as they start training camp."
There is no getting around that Florida needs a healthy Lagway to be successful in 2025. The backup QB situation for the Gators is what it is, and while someone like Harrison Bailey might be able to hold the fort down for a game or two, Florida isn't making the playoffs in 2025 if Lagway isn't QB1 throughout.
And even if Lagway is healthy, come the opener against LIU, the unknown for Florida is how all the lost time and reps this offseason are going to impact the Gators as a whole.
But at least for now, Lagway seems to be progressing well, and hopefully, there are no further setbacks this offseason.
