Florida defensive lineman Brendan Bett will miss a "little bit of time" against third-ranked LSU, Head Coach Billy Napier revealed on 'SEC Nation' earlier today. Napier did not specify the length of time that Bett will miss, but he indicated that the decision was a form of internal discipline.

Napier also stated that the exact details of the punishment would be "kept internal," only publicly assuring that the redshirt sophomore will miss time during today's game. Napier, as he had guaranteed would happen several times prior, confirmed that Bett had privately apologized to the team.

Bett, who shared an apology message earlier this week, was ejected from last Saturday's shocking home loss to South Florida for spitting on South Florida offensive lineman Cole Skinner. His penalty, which gave the Bulls a free fifteen yards during their game-winning drive, has received national attention throughout the week.

What this means

Despite his shortcomings in discipline, Bett actually had an effective first two weeks with the Gators. Since arriving from Baylor, he quickly rose through the ranks in the defensive line room and made a name for himself during Florida's week one blowout victory over LIU, where he recorded three solo tackles.

The loss of Bett will certainly be felt by Florida's defensive line room, but the Gators will also get a crucial piece back in Caleb Banks, who will return from injury later today. This will be Banks' first action of the season after a breakout 2024 campaign, quickly skyrocketing his draft stock and gaining noise as a potential first-round draft pick.

Banks' arrival is certainly a win for the Gators, but they'll also be missing Michai Boireau, who was listed as "questionable" on the depth chart Thursday night but ultimately will not play tomorrow. A return date has not been specified, but signs point to him being ready to go against Miami.
