We knew coming into the week that it was going to be tough for Florida to do anything to get any serious traction in the polls. The Gators won 52-3 over Campbell,, and while there were plenty of highlight moments, it wasn’t enough for the Gators to gain any movement.
While there was once again plenty of movement around Florida, the Gators remained put in the same spot they have been this year.
Florida once again unranked in the AP Top 25
In the Week Two AP Top 25 poll, Florida is once again unranked. The Gators are essentially No. 27, as the team receiving the 2nd most votes among unranked teams.
Just like last week, there are some massive inconsistencies around the polls. Oregon was dropped 15 spots and comes in at No. 21 after its loss to Oklahoma State. We have to ask why they are ranked at all. Two weeks in, what has Oregon done to prove that they are a better team than Florida? They barely squeaked by Boise State and lost to an Oklahoma State squad that just lost to Tulsa.
Likewise, Washington is the first team out but is ahead of Florida. The Huskies had to scrape by Utah State on Saturday, and that follows an unimpressive win over Washington State. Iowa beat Iowa State, ranked No. 50 in the Saragin ratings, and they were rewarded by moving up three spots.
Louisville gave up 13 points in their FCS game and won by less than Florida did, but they were bumped up a spot. Southern Cal gave up 30 points to Louisiana, but they were bumped up two spots.
Now, like we have said throughout, Florida is going to have plenty of chances to prove itself and prove the polls wrong. It’s one thing to complain about Florida’s lack of movement, but if they go out and lose next week to Auburn, then it doesn’t matter anyway.
But there is this artifical thing the polls do where people rank their teams for the preseason, and then seem to refuse to make movements once the games are played for real. So because Florida came in with the perception of a team that is going to struggle, it has been hard for them to break into the top 25.
The Gators take on Auburn next week, which is also unranked.
