Florida commits no-showing vs. Texas spotlights a sinking recruiting pitch

Usually, one of the first tell-tale signs that a ship is sinking in college football is when multiple commits start to bail on a program. Florida experienced this in 2023, when its then top-five class had a barrage of players decommit after a five-game losing streak.

Last year was the opposite effect, where Florida started slow out of the gate only to pick up steam late after a four-game winning streak.

But in 2025, Florida's already lagging recruiting class is in danger of free-falling to the abyss.

Multiple commits to be at FSU this weekend

It was reported by Rivals today that four-star running back commit Carsyn Baker is going to be in Tallahassee this weekend for the FSU vs. Miami game.

He now joins fellow Florida commits Kaiden Hall and Justin Williams as prospects who will also be in Tallahassee.

If you are keeping score at home, Florida does play Texas this weekend in The Swamp in what is the most notable home game the Gators have this season, and yet here are three commits skipping out to head to the Neighbors to the West.

And the sad part is, one can't really blame them for keeping their options open.

All three players claim publicly that their commitment to the Gators is still solid, but we know how this game is played. These guys are well aware that Billy Napier is 20-22 in year four of his tenure, and Gator fans are desperately trying to spot the buyout.

They are well aware that The Swamp could very well be an insane asylum on Saturday, just not the type that Napier and crew would prefer, and that Saturday could be the last home game Napier coaches with Florida.

Mind you, this is all on the heels of Napier's staff staying home during the bye week and opting to not hit the recruiting trail.

And before anyone tries to claim it's all the negative headlines that are going to drive these commits away from Gainesville, let's make one thing abundantly clear:

Negative headlines aren't why Florida doesn't know how to count to 11 on special teams.

Negative headlines aren't why Florida is 1-3 in 2025.

Negative headlines aren't why Billy Napier has the worst winning percentage of any Gator coach since World War II.

The ship is sinking in Gainesville, and one can hardly blame anyone for wanting to at least know where the lifeboats are before it fully sinks.
