Florida is hunting in the transfer portal for another piece to complete its reload of the wide receiver room. Former Minnesota wide receiver Malachi Coleman has been in Gainesville the past two days and could be the one.
The Gators have already signed two wide receivers this week, gaining pledges from Micah Mays Jr., formerly of Wake Forest, and Bailey Stockton, who played at Georgia Tech. Florida was able to retain top young pass catchers, Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III.
Florida transfer portal targets advanced profiles (via @PFF_College):
— Max Bernstein (@maxbernstein23) January 7, 2026
No. 32: Malachi Coleman, WR, Minnesota - 13 receptions on 31 targets (2023 at Nebraska, 2025 at Minnesota).
54.3 PFF grade in '25, 58.0 PFF grade in '23.
2.4 yards after catch per reception in '25, 2.0…
Coleman started his career at Nebraska and transferred to Minnesota. He had eight catches for 138 yards and a touchdown as a freshman with the Cornhuskers and missed most of the 2024 season with a groin and shoulder injuries and took a redshirt before leaving Nebraska. Coleman had five catches for 83 yards with the Golden Gophers, including a career-long 52-yard reception against Northwestern.
The redshirt sophomore has appeared in 20 games between the Huskers and the Golden Gophers. Coleman has great size, listed at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, and could be an intriguing threat on the outside. His lack of production suggests that he's had an issue breaking through on depth charts, but the quarterback situations at Nebraska in 2023 and Minnesota this past season, weren't anything to write home about. So maybe just a change in scenery could help Coleman meet his full potential.
How long is the transfer portal window open?
The transfer portal officially opened on January 2 and will stay open until the end of the day on January 16. Unlike previous seasons, there is only one transfer portal window this year and all business needs to get done over the two-week period.
Florida has been active in the portal, which was expected when Jon Sumrall took the job in December. The Gators have seen 30 players leave the program through the portal and have signed 13 players as of Thursday afternoon. Some of Florida's bigger signings include quarterback Aaron Philo (Georgia Tech) and running back Evan Pyor (Cincinnati).
