As the class of 2027 starts to get wrapped up for Florida, attention is going to slowly start to shift towards the rising juniors around the country, AKA the class of 2028. And so while most Florida fans had their attention on wide receiver Easton Royal this past weekend, 2028 wide receiver Brysen Wright made sure that Gator fans keep him on their radar too.
Because competing at the OT7 Finals, the Jacksonville native had a catch that would cause controllers to be thrown if an opponent pulled it off in a video game.
Florida 2028 target Brysen Wright has a viral catch
Typically, we here at Hail Florida Hail don’t put a ton of stock into what happens at a seven-on-seven tournament. As we will commentate from time to time, what happens at these events doesn’t exactly replicate real football once the pads come on for real, and there are traits that certain players possess that can’t shine in this setting.
But no matter the setting, Wright had a catch so nice over the weekend that even we had to stop and take notice. Wright went up high in the back of the endzone on a ball that was a bit behind him and did his best Odell Beckham impersonation for a one-handed touchdown.
Coming up at 2 ET on NBC with the @overtime OT7 Finals.

Makai Lemon, Carnell Tate and KC Concepcion have come through this league most recently. Brysen Wright is next. He made THIS catch yesterday. Oh, and his coach on the sidelines is Cam Newton. pic.twitter.com/DtPMNToqAT
Wright is going to be an interesting target to follow once recruitment for the class of 2028 starts to kick into gear. Out of Jacksonville, he is a consensus top-five overall player with all three major services, with ESPN ranking him as the top prospect for the class of 2028. Listed at 6’3” and 210 pounds, his catch at OT7 showcases the catch radius that makes him such a desired target.
Right now, Florida, Miami, Texas, and Ohio State are among the schools believed to be the front-runners for Wright. Perhaps the most notable advantage the Gators will have in his recruitment, beyond proximity, is that Wright attends Mandarin High School and was teammates with current Florida QB Tramell Jones. In the one year the duo played together at Mandarin, Wright had 646 yards and eight TDs during the 2024 campaign.
There will be plenty of twists and turns for Wright once real contenders and pretenders start to emerge this fall, but this weekend proved that he will be a player to keep an eye on, and if the Gators do manage to flip Easton Royal, the potential future of Florida’s wide receiver room will be the type of stuff fans can only dream of in video games.
