Five Florida commits giving Jon Sumrall more reasons to like his 2027 class

Florida is off this weekend, so it’s a great chance to check up on the class of 2027 that Jon Sumrall has brewing. We know some of the big names like Maxwell Hiller and Easton Royal, but there are some other commits who are having a notable 2026 campaign with their respective high schools.

These are five of the most notable seasons that Gator commits are having. All stats are taken off MaxPreps. For the purpose of this list, we did not include any offensive linemen because it’s hard to guage their seasons from a distance.

5 Florida commits are having a great 2026 season

Cahron Wheeler (Defensive Lineman, No. 119 overall)

One of the hopes with Sumrall is that, if given time, he is making an attempt to build up the trenches. Cahron Wheeler is one of those guys who explodes on film and who we were excited about when he committed.

The Maryland native already has eight tackles for a loss, surpassing his total from last year of six.

Andrew Beard II (Running back, No. 170 overall)

Florida had to fight off Clemson to land the Georgia native. He’s a player we weren’t quite as high on because he didn’t have the type of speed that blew us away on film, but there is no disputing that he is an effective runner who knows how to stay patient to pick up yards.

So far he has over 800 yards rushing and has 15 total TDs.

Ja’Bios Smith (Linebacker, No. 184 overall)

We noted back in July that Smith was the type of player that rankings might overlook because of his style of play. We said at the time that:

“You know what camp season doesn’t reward?

Linebackers who can tackle guys with zero effort and running backs who can fend off four would-be tacklers.”

Smith has been flying around this year for Swainsboro High and has already racked up 69 tackles, with 14 of those being for a loss. Now Swainsboro themselves are only 2-5, so Smith might not get a playoff run to get to 100 tackles, but it is still an impressive year.

Tommy Douglas (Tight End, No. 413 overall)

When Douglas committed to Florida, he was ranked 679th in the country. We noted when he committed to Florida that:

“What first stands out is his willingness to maul dudes in the trenches. He’s not a tight end who blocks just well enough not to get called out on it; he genuinely seems to enjoy driving opposing EDGEs to the ground. If Douglas were just a bit bigger, he could probably pass off as an offensive lineman prospect for Florida.”

But he is a more than capable pass catcher, and this year he already has over 500 yards receiving.

De’Voun Kendrick (Defensive Lineman, No. 628 overall)

Another player we tried not to hype up too much when Florida landed him, the Tampa native has been a wrecking ball for Carrollwood Day School in 2026 and have helped propell CDS to a top 25 overall ranking in the state of Florida.

Kendrick currently has 18 tackles for a loss.
