Throughout the spring, the health of Florida Gator star DJ Lagway was the main topic of conversation. Lagway didn't throw throughout the spring and only handed the ball off a couple of times during Florida's spring game.
Indications have been positive for the progression of Lagway, and Billy Napier addressed the status of Lagway during his appearance at SEC Media Days.
DJ Lagway is progressing well for the Gators
During the media Q&A, Napier was asked about the status of Lagway, and he expressed positivity about where his star QB is heading into fall camp:
"We throw the quarterback three times a week; he's continued to do that. Actually got a good session in this morning before we came (to Atlanta). We feel confident in terms of him being ready to go."
What was notable about Napier's answer is that he didn't dive into the specifics of Lagway's injury, especially the recent claim from Chris Doering that Lagway was dealing with a hernia issue in addition to the shoulder issue that was the main topic of conversation during the spring.
There had been fear that Lagway's shoulder issue was going to be something that required surgery, but those fears have been quelled for now.
Lagway enters the 2025 season with a ton on his plate. Florida was undefeated in 2024 in games that Lagway started and finished. During his freshman campaign, he threw for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.
Lagway was inserted as the full-time starter after Graham Mertz tore his ACL against Tennessee. The former five-star QB injured his hamstring against Georgia, missed the game against Texas, and returned against LSU to help spark a four-game winning streak that has given Florida hope coming into 2025.
In addition to his offseason rehab, Lagway has had a busy offseason that included being featured on the cover of the new CFB 26 video game.
