In a vacuum, Florida's win over Mississippi State should have been an iconic moment in Gator lore. Michai Boireau intercepted a pass in the final minute that saved the Gators from a soul-crushing loss to the Bulldogs.
But given the backdrop of Billy Napier's job status, DJ Lagway seemed to know what is about to happen to the leader of the Gators.
Ominous foreshadowing doesn't bode well for Billy Napier
Maybe it is reading too much into one quote, but Lagway seemed to hint he knew what was coming even after Florida pulled off a 23-21 win:
"I'm extremely grateful for Coach Napier and everything he's done for me and my family."
Without 100% knowing the future, that is the type of quote tweet someone would make after Pete Thamel sends out a tweet that Billy Napier has been fired by Florida.
And while Lagway doesn't seem like the type of guy who would throw someone under the bus, there is a reason why buses exist.
Beyond the injury melodrama that consumed this offseason, the core issue for Lagway is that Napier's offense expects Lagway to be Superman.
The problem is that even Superman has his kryptonite, and rather than pin Lagway's interceptions on Lagway himself, it is more realistic to say that Napier's JV level offense is the problem.
On Lagway's second INT on the night, he was handed a play call that is a common staple:
Hitch routes across the board.
Shocking to no one, Mississippi State did its homework and jumped the route for the interception.
Napier himself also seems to think the end might be near, and it's play designs like this that have helped create his demise.
Despite the Napier offense, one can see why Lagway still has potential, and all one can hope for is that Florida's new coach can keep Lagway and unlock his potential.
