Dallas Wilson has nothing holding him back from a breakthrough campaign in 2026

After struggling with injuries for the better part of a year, Dallas Wilson is ready to show college football what he's made of when he's fully healthy.

The return of Wilson to the practice field should have Jon Sumrall, Buster Faulkner and everyone involved or supportive of Florida Gators football excited. Florida did not get a full season from Wilson last year, far from it, but the small sample size he showed made his health an offseason priority for the new staff.

Besides Jadan Baugh, Wilson could prove to be the most pivotal piece of the Florida offense. It's correctly assumed that Faulkner is going the run the ball a lot and in different ways with Baugh and whichever quarterback, likely Aaron Philo, handling the bulk of the load. 

But the passing game will have to make plays, both along the perimeter, turning short passes into chunk gains and by going up top and catching the secondary in a slump. Wilson is the best fit to be that receiver for Faulkner to rely on when things have to get done through the air.

When Wilson was on the field last year, he was an immediate difference maker. He electrified fans with his performance in last year's spring game, but he didn't make it on the field in the regular season until Week 5 against Texas in October, when he lit up the Longhorns for six catches, 111 yards and two touchdowns.

And less than a month later, it was over with a lower-leg injury. Wilson was limited in spring camp, with Sumrall and Faulkner making the decision to keep him mostly on the side field. Watching his teammates and the energy from Sumrall's practices just served to make Wilson even more hungry to return.

"It's a new coaching staff, a lot of new players...it's really going to be my first fall camp, so we'll see how it goes," Wilson said. "It should be a lot of fun. I have to get out there and go ball."

Sumrall knows that Wilson's time is now and the Gators' success on offense could depend on the sophomore having a special season. 

"He's really competitive in nature, likes to compete. I think the biggest thing is giving him a full year of health and availability to maximize the player he can become," Sumrall said. "What I would say is he has worked as hard as anybody in our program to be ready to go. He's had a great summer. I'm so excited about him and look forward to watching him cut it loose.
