Two way, what a day! Florida Gators two-way player Caden McDonald had the night of his life On Saturday night against Oklahoma, McDonald put the college baseball world on notice that he might be the next two-way star in the sport. McDonald was without a doubt the player of the night, leading No. 15/25 Florida to a 10-5 victory over the 12/15 Sooners.
He started out the night as the DH at the plate and later assumed his second role as relief pitcher after coming on in relief of Liam Peterson with two outs in the fifth.
At the plate the redshirt sophomore from Tampa, FL. was 4-for-5 with two home runs and two doubles, driving in six of the Gators’ 10 runs and scoring three. His two homers, two doubles, and six RBIs were all career highs.

The Gators were up 6-4 when McDonald relieved Peterson on the mound. He came in to a bases loaded, two-out situation and got a groundout to get Florida out of the inning.
After getting Florida out of the fifth he went on to give up just one hit, striking out four along the way and went on to earn the win to improve to 4-1 on the season.
We here at Hail Florida Hail mused after Friday's loss that the Gators felt like a one-man team after Aidan King went 7.0 innings with just one earned run and the Gators still found a way to lose. McDonald’s 4-for-5 night at the plate and four strikeout pitching performance is exactly the jolt Florida needed.
“This is one to remember for sure,” said Gator head coach Kevin O’Sullivan. “He was four for five, six RBIs, pitched three scoreless and only up on infield hit, four strikeouts. I mean, you just do not see that very often,” he noted.
He compared McDonald’s performance to a Wyatt Langford and Jac Caglianone type of performance, both of which are MLB players having great success in the big leagues.
The 6’3” righty just added to being a potential pick in the 2026 MLB draft. He’s already ranked as a top-100 college prospect, earning that title after a strong performance in the Cape Cod League last summer.
So far this season on the mound, McDonald is now 4-1, as mentioned, with a 3.24 ERA. Over the course of 33 1/3 inning he has given up just 12 earned runs on 31 hits. He has walked just six and struck out 32.
He has a career 4.11 ERA and through two seasons is 8-1 with 61 strikeouts.
At the plate he is hitting .393 with four home runs and three doubles. He’s slugging .929 and has a .452 OBP.
Over the course of his career he is hitting .379, slugging .897, with a .438 OBP.
