The biggest subplot for Florida Football this spring has been the health of DJ Lagway. It was announced prior to the start of spring practice that Lagway would be limited due to a shoulder issue.
Lagway has been seen going through plays this spring but has yet to be seen throwing a ball. After Florida's team scrimmage on Tuesday, Napier gave an update on Lagway's status.
Florida Football: Go DJ
Napier has kept a positive tone throughout the spring and kept that theme once again in his press conference:
"He's doing great. He actually played quite a few plays today. So, he was able to participate in the scrimmage. He's just been modified in terms of his ability to throw the ball. Obviously, it's really more of a holistic approach in terms of what we're doing with him. But in general, he's doing great. Today, he played every play from behind. He stood back there with me, got the play call. We've been having him call some plays in seven-on-seven drills, just to kind of reiterate that communication. I think we've given him some leadership assignments."
Now, the part that might be confusing for Florida fans is where Napier stated, "He actually played quite a few plays today."
However, based on reports from Swamp 247 and Gators Online, Lagway still did not throw in the scrimmage. His playing constituted handing the ball off, and he had a rollout.
Based on what Napier had indicated at the start of spring, this isn't a surprise, but it is worth keeping an eye on. Even if Lagway winds up being fine coming fall camp, one of the concerns are the lack of live reps he will have with his receivers heading into the season.
Florida's Orange and Blue Game will be on April 12 in Gainesville at 1 PM.
